What if I have a loss?
The risks to property are many and varied—theft, fire and flood, to name a few. Your response depends on the type of loss you face, but here are some hints to get you started:
- Regardless of the type of loss, report it to Wright-Gardner right away. The sooner we are aware of a claim, the better we can serve you or protect your interests. Contact us at 800-733-1236.
- If you have a theft or vandalism, report the loss immediately to the police.
- Do not get rid of any damaged items.
- Take pictures, if possible.
- If you’re involved in an auto accident, call the police immediately.
- If your property is damaged, do what you can to protect it from further damage. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
- Assemble any receipts, warranty documents and other proofs of ownership for lost or damaged property.
- Retain any receipts for expenses or replaced property.
What if I can't stay in my home?
After a loss, your home may not be habitable. Your homeowner’s insurance will pay for the additional living expenses you incur, for covered losses, until you are able to return.
My vehicle can not be driven… how do I get to work? (Or how do I get a rental car?)
If you need a rental car, purchase one with a personal credit card so that you have a receipt of the rental costs to submit to the insurance company. The cost to rent a vehicle is considered part of your loss if you were injured by another party. If you were at fault, check your insurance policy to see if you have “rental reimbursement” coverage.
Is this going to affect my insurance rates?
One or two claims should not affect your rates. Insurance companies are more concerned with a high frequency (meaning a large number of claims) than severity (meaning the size of a claim). A high frequency of claims can lead to an increase in your rate.
Are you going to cancel my insurance now?
No. We do not cancel insurance based on a claim.
Why does this affect me, when it wasn't my fault?
Some states have "no-fault" laws, meaning your auto policy must pay medical bills for injuries suffered in an auto accident regardless of who caused the accident. The laws were enacted in an attempt to reduce auto-injury fraud and keep insurance cost down.
What do I do with my vehicle estimate (or hospital bill)?
